    The problem

    The load-out circuit is the last place an uncalibrated instrument can hide before it becomes a shipping dispute.

    Train load-out bins, rail loop points and signalling interfaces, wharf conveyors, travelling ship loaders and automated sampling stations are commissioned by rail, port authority and OEM specialists who rarely share a single register with the mine's own commissioning team.

    Setting up the register

    Load-out bins, rail interfaces and shiploading equipment are structured to match the custody-transfer chain.

    Train load-out bins are tagged with their gates, dust extraction, load cells and rail loop signalling interface, while wharf conveyors, ship loaders and their slew, luff and travel drives sit as their own subsystem downstream.

    Weightometers, belt scales and automated sampling stations are held as their own measurement-point tags, cross-referenced to the offtake agreement's specified custody-transfer points rather than buried inside a generic conveyor checklist.

    Rail interface drawings, ship loader OEM manuals and metrology certificates are parsed into that structure, so the register mirrors the actual chain of measurement responsibility from mine gate to vessel hold.

    Execution

    Calibration, functional testing and trial loading run instrument by instrument before commercial sign-off.

    Weightometer and belt scale calibration is captured against NATA or equivalent accredited procedures, with tolerance results logged at the instrument tag so any drift is visible before it reaches a shipping statement.

    Ship loader functional testing — slew, luff, travel, boom conveyor tripping and dust suppression — and train load-out bin gate sequencing are captured on tablet at the wharf and rail siding, with rail signalling interlocks tested jointly with the rail operator's own commissioning team.

    Trial loading runs against a nominated tonnage are logged with weightometer readings reconciled to survey or draft-mark figures, giving a documented basis for accepting the measurement chain before it is used commercially.

    Commercial readiness and handover

    Load-out is released for commercial operation only once every custody-transfer instrument has a signed calibration record.

    Mechanical completion for the load-out chain is issued per asset — bin, loop, loader, weightometer, sampler — with commercial load-out readiness held as a separate gate that requires every custody-transfer instrument's calibration certificate to be signed and current.

    Interface sign-off with the rail operator and port authority is captured against the same register, so shared infrastructure like the rail loop and berth is not certified by the mine's team alone without the counterpart's evidence attached.

    The handover pack for the marketing and logistics team includes weightometer calibration history, sampling station verification and rail interface test records, giving them a documented basis to start invoicing shipments from day one.

    Loading rate guarantee and demurrage exposure

    A ship loader that runs at rated tonnes per hour on paper still exposes the mine to demurrage if the guaranteed loading rate was never proven under a realistic trial.

    Offtake and charter party agreements typically specify a guaranteed loading rate in tonnes per hour, and if the actual sustained rate falls short once a vessel is alongside, the mine carries the demurrage cost — yet the ship loader's rated capacity is often proven only against a clean, dry, well-sized product sample rather than the moisture content and fines proportion the mine will actually be loading in its first commercial season.

    A stockyard reclaim rate that cannot feed the loader fast enough, a belt scale that has drifted since its last calibration, or a boom conveyor that trips on a moisture-affected parcel all show up the same way commercially: the vessel sails late and the demurrage invoice lands on the marketing desk with no commissioning record to contest it against.
