The problem
The work list doubles on the second day, and nobody agreed to that in writing.
The original specification covers hull cleaning, coating, anodes and a defined set of repairs. Underwater surveys, thickness gauging and class inspections routinely find corrosion, wastage or defects that were not visible when the specification was priced.
Without a clean separation between the original scope and growth, the owner cannot see what changed and the yard cannot easily justify additional cost or schedule.

Setting up the register
Hull sections, tanks and machinery carry the specification items that apply to them.
The vessel is broken into hull sections, sea chests, rudder and propeller, tanks and the machinery items scheduled for overhaul during the window.
The repair specification, class survey requirements and owner's supplementary list are parsed into the register against the relevant tag, so scope is visible per section before the vessel is even docked.
This is what allows growth items discovered mid-docking to be added against the right tag immediately, with photos, rather than logged separately and reconciled later.
Execution
Thickness gauging, coating and class survey leave a signed record at the tag they concern.
Surveyors and technicians capture gauging readings, coating inspection results and repair records on tablet, at the hull section or tank they belong to.
Findings that trigger growth are raised as a new item with photos and a reference to the reading or inspection that found them, with an owner assigned before the day is out.
Because dock time is the most expensive resource in the project, every item shows how close it is to holding up flooding the dock.
Redelivery
Redelivery is certified against the specification as it stood, growth included.
The redelivery certificate lists the original specification items and every growth item, each with its closing record, so the owner sees exactly what was done against what was agreed.
Any item not completed before undocking is carried explicitly with an owner and a plan, rather than silently dropped.
That certificate is also what the yard uses to support its final invoice against agreed growth, reducing the scope for dispute after the vessel has sailed.
Coating hold points and the tide
Blasting, coating and anodes have cure times that do not care when the tide floods the dock.
Hull blasting to the specified surface profile, primer and topcoat application, and anode replacement each have hold points and minimum cure or recoat windows set by the coating manufacturer, and a dock has a fixed number of tide cycles it can wait for a delayed coating to cure before flooding becomes unavoidable.
A surveyor's hold point on surface preparation, a wet film thickness reading taken too early, or a coat applied outside its recoat window can turn a single afternoon's shortcut into days of rework once the paint has already failed adhesion testing.
