    The problem

    The hull is proven first, and mission equipment is proven last, under pressure.

    Cranes, moonpools, active heave compensation, gangways and DP systems are commissioned by specialist vendors on their own schedules, often arriving late in the build against a fixed delivery date.

    When these systems live in separate vendor documentation, the yard discovers integration problems — power management conflicts, DP reference system interference, deck load limits — during sea trials rather than before.

    Setting up the register

    Hull, mission equipment and DP are linked subsystems, not separate projects.

    Cranes, moonpool and handling systems, gangways, ROV spreads, active heave compensation and DP reference systems each hold their own equipment lists and record sets, cross-linked to the power management system that ties them together.

    General arrangements, mission equipment layouts and vendor drawings are parsed into a reviewed register, so every winch, thruster and reference sensor carries its drawing and its interface points.

    That structure is what allows the yard to sequence DP trials against actual equipment readiness instead of a fixed calendar date.

    Execution

    Vendor commissioning and integration testing captured against the same asset register.

    Vendors and yard technicians sign installation, functional test and integration records on tablets at the equipment, including power management and thruster allocation logic.

    Punch is raised with photos and categorised by whether it blocks DP trials, sea trials or delivery, so DP-critical findings are never mixed in with cosmetic outfit items.

    Progress rolls up per mission system and per hull zone, which is the level the trials programme is actually managed at.

    Trials and delivery

    DP trials and sea trials depend on a chain of equipment and integration evidence.

    DP trial and FMEA proving trial readiness depends on individual equipment acceptance and power management commissioning, each enforced as a prerequisite from the records beneath.

    The dossier per mission system gives the owner and the class surveyor the test results, settings and drawings needed to close out DP notation and vessel delivery together.

    Residual punch from sea trials stays live with owners and dates through to redelivery from the yard rather than disappearing into a trials report.

    Moonpool and diving system class notation

    A moonpool and a saturation diving system carry their own class notation, and their commissioning does not fit a standard hull acceptance form.

    Moonpool structures, diving bells, saturation systems and ROV launch and recovery systems each carry class notations and statutory requirements — pressure vessel certification for the dive system, structural approval for the moonpool opening, life support system testing — that sit outside a conventional hull and machinery commissioning scope.

    Confined space entry into the moonpool trunk and diving system compartments during commissioning carries its own hazard profile, and the record of gas testing and permits for that entry is exactly the kind of evidence an owner's rep or class surveyor will ask for months after the vessel is delivered.
