Piping inspection checklist: free installation checklist (Excel and PDF)
Deskely Completions team Singapore
Before a line goes into a test pack, it is walked and checked against its isometric: materials, welds, routing, supports, flanged joints, valves, vents and drains. The piping inspection checklist makes sure the same checks are made on every line.
This page gives you a free piping installation inspection checklist in Excel and PDF, one line per sheet, and explains what each group of checks is for.
- Inspect each line against its latest isometric before it goes into a test pack.
- Supports and flanged joints cause most findings; check them closely.
- Spring supports keep their travel stops in until after the pressure test.
- Everything not right becomes a punch item before testing.
What the checklist covers
| Group | Typical checks |
|---|---|
| Materials and welding | Components to the piping class, weld log up to date, NDT and PWHT done, spec breaks in place. |
| Routing and supports | Routing and elevations, supports and guides in contact, shoes free to slide, spring supports set, slopes. |
| Flanged joints | Alignment and parallelism, gasket type, bolting and thread engagement, tightening record. |
| Valves and in-line items | Flow direction, access to handwheels, instruments installed or removed for the test, vents, drains, small-bore bracing. |
| Before the test pack | Clearances, internal cleanliness, temporary items, redlines on the isometric. |
The template

Mark each check Accepted, Rejected or N/A; the counts update at the top. Rejected checks become punch items on the punch list before the line can be tested.
From checklist to test pack
The checklist is one of the inputs to the hydrostatic test report: a test pack should not be released while the lines in it still have open findings. See flange types and the weld map for the detail behind two of the groups.
Deskely Testpack builds the packs from the line list and the drawings and shows what still blocks each one, from open welds to punch items.
