Capacitor, reactor and drive symbols
Capacitor banks and reactors correct power factor and limit current. Drives, rectifiers, inverters and UPS units convert power between AC and DC or between frequencies.
Loads and power electronics: ANSI and IEC
IEC draws power converters as a square with a diagonal (S00213), with AC or DC marks on each side: AC in and DC out is a rectifier (S00894), DC in and AC out an inverter (S00896), AC on both sides a frequency converter. US one-lines usually draw a labelled box: VFD, RECT, INV or UPS.
Capacitors differ in one detail: IEC draws two straight plates (S00567), ANSI one straight and one curved.
Frequently asked questions
Which loads and power electronics appear on a single line diagram?
This legend covers capacitor bank, reactor, variable frequency drive, rectifier, inverter, UPS, load. Project legends may add more.
Are these symbols different in IEC and ANSI?
5 of the 7 are drawn differently. Each symbol page shows both forms side by side.
Can I download these symbols?
Yes. Each symbol page has free SVG files, and the hub has printable PDF charts.
