How it is drawn
Where you see it
Every welded joint between pipe and fittings: elbows, tees, reducers, weld neck flanges and butt-weld valves.
What is written next to it
On the isometric, the butt weld usually carries a weld number, used to track fit-up, welding, NDT and the weld map.
What gets checked on site
For a butt weld, the site checks usually cover fit-up, the welder and procedure, visual inspection and the NDT the line class calls for, all recorded against the weld number. Each check is recorded against the line and the joint, so the line can go into its test pack and be handed over with its evidence. See the ITR guide.
