Fuse symbol
Also called HRC fuse, Current limiting fuse
A fuse protects a circuit by melting when the current is too high for too long. It must be replaced after it operates.

ANSI and IEC symbols
Where you see it
Voltage transformer primaries, transformer and capacitor feeders, motor starters and low voltage distribution.
What is written next to it
On a one-line, the fuse carries its tag and its ratings: rated voltage, rated current, breaking capacity and characteristic (for example gG or aM).
What gets checked at commissioning
Before the fuse is energised, the test records usually cover: that the right rating is fitted, and continuity. Each check is recorded against the tag, so the system can be handed over with its evidence. See commissioning software.
